Halo Civil - Denny Avenue Crossing Project

About the Project

The Denny Avenue Level Crossing in Kelmscott was the first crossing to be removed under the METRONET Level Crossing Removal program and permanently closed on 1 April 2021.

With the boom gates down an average of one minute and 44 seconds each crossing and a total average closure of three hours and seven minutes per day, removing this crossing increased the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists, as well as reducing road congestion and revitalising the local area.

If the crossing remained open, the total down time is expected to have increased to three hours and 34 minutes per day by 2031.

With the level crossing permanently closed, a new east-west connection rail-over-road underpass was built at Davis Road.

The Noongar place name for Kelmscott is Goolamup (Goolam-up) and the narrative is ‘the place of the young men’.
“Peter’s team Halo, reacted very quickly as we accelerated dates for a major possession on Denny Avenue Level Cross Removal Project.  Halo assisted in the switch over of the existing rail, to new alignment to rail bridge. We had a wide range of personnel from Supervisors, machine operators and skilled labour who all performed really well and were fully integrated into the team.”.
